Carmen C Mora

Carmen “Mimpy” Cardona Mora, 85, of Celebration, Florida, passed away on May 29, 2022 surrounded by her family. Mimpy was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to José Gil Cardona Santos and Carmen Ramos Noriega. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the InterAmerican University in Puerto Rico. Following a short career as a case worker, she started her life long career of wife, mother, and grandmother. Mimpy was a devoted wife of 62 years working with her husband in his engineering firm, running the household, moving the family to Boston and Florida, traveling, camping, and boating. She was an outstanding mother very involved in her children’s lives; assisting in various scout troops and supporting their various sports teams and extracurricular activities. She was a hard-working school volunteer and room mother for her four kids; her sandwiches always sold-out during class fundraising events! She was a great friend and neighbor and many of their children counted her an “adoptive” mother. She was always very giving and is remembered for always having a big smile! As her youngest grandchild recently said upon her passing “thank you for this wonderful family you created and left us.” In her later years, Mimpy continued to enjoy volunteering. She was a founding member of Stitches of Love at Championsgate, FL making hats for preemie babies and novelty pillowcases for the Children’s Cancer Hospital. She was known for baking desserts like Mantecaditos, Flan and Tres Leches that sold like hotcakes at the Stitches of Love fundraisers. She was a member of the church music group. She also thoroughly enjoyed teaching her grandkids to bake and cook Puerto Rican recipes, and feeding family, friends, and neighbors. When not volunteering or caring for her family, she loved gardening especially orchids and violets. She is survived by her brother José Gil Cardona Jr and wife Blanca of Guaynabo, PR, daughter Yasmine McNellis and husband Tom of Eastham, MA, son Pedro J. Mora and wife Romi of Shrewsbury, MA, daughter Lizette Wagoner and husband Tim of Celebration, FL, and daughter Elaine Zorrilla and husband Pedro Jaime of San Juan, PR; her grandchildren Risa, Pedro Antonio, Evan, Kiana, Rafiela, Natalia, Andrea, and Pedro Javier; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mimpy was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro “Tato” Mora Mena, and her parents.
